An understanding of the W3C guidelines is also essential as is a good knowledge of usability issues. You must also be up-to-date with cross-browser and cross-platform issues, have a good eye for detail and be able to work to tight deadlines. Understanding or the concept of Information Architecture would also be advantageous.
In addition, exposure to dynamic web technologies (such as Cold Fusion, .NET platform technologies, ASP, PHP, JSP or Perl) would be a distinct advantage.
You should be able to effectively demonstrate an enormous enthusiasm for the web and web technologies, conscientiousness and dedication.
Essential skills:
* Advanced level XHTML and CSS
* Experience creating tableless layouts
* Hand coding (no reliance on WYSIWIG editors)
* Experience of cross-browser and cross-platform issues
* Photoshop/Illustrator knowledge
* Awareness of WCAG, WAI and usability issues
Desirable skills:
* Javascript/DOM scripting/AJAX
* XSL/XSLT
* Visual Studio.net
* Eclipse and Tortoise SVN
* SEO awareness
* Flash (and Actionscript)
This is a Front end development role, not a design role, but strong attention to detail and the ability to challenge issues from design to functionality is essential.
