Senior Structural Engineer £65k + package
Our client is a specialist engineering company providing a full range of services to the property and construction industry. They wish to recruit senior engineer positions to maintain their delivery of an excellent service to their clients and enhance their reputation as one of the leading structural engineering businesses in the country. Their wide variety of projects include work in residential, commercial, aviation, rail, health, retail and leisure sectors. They have particular expertise in high rise projects where they work on many prestigious schemes notably "The Shard at London Bridge" which will be the tallest building in Europe. Many of their projects involve working with signature architects.
The role is to work as part of an engineering team, taking on a senior role in project work, focused on production and client liaison and mentoring and coaching junior members of the team.
The candidate will be the senior structural designer for projects under the direction of an Associate Director or Technical Director, coordinating the design with other consultants, and directing and supervising more junior engineers and cad technicians in their work. Ideally the candidate will have experience of design in all the major construction materials to British Standards and will be able to demonstrate the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
The role includes meetings with the client, contractors and other designers. It is therefore important the candidate has good communication skills and can demonstrate relevant experience. Site visits will also be required to monitor whether the construction is in accordance with the design and to resolve site queries.
Candidates should be degree qualified or possess other suitable qualifications in structural or civil engineering. Chartered or approaching chartered level with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.
Successful experience in leading the structural design and running of tall building projects is required. Projects over 40 storeys demand specialist understanding and analysis methods, and the candidate should demonstrate competence in these areas.
The candidate should ideally have experience in the design of post-tensioned slabs, since these are often the most suitable form of construction for tall buildings.
The candidate should have experience of the design of conventional reinforced concrete and structural steel for significant projects. Experience of foundation design should include piles, spread foundations, rafts and basement constuction. Ideally, experience in the design of other materials should be demonstrated. Design experience must be to British codes and standards.
In taking a lead role in projects the candidate should have experience of attending meetings with the client and other design team members, liasing and co-ordinating with the design team, directing and monitoring support engineers and CAD staff, planning work and quality control.
The candidate should ideally be experienced in the use of the ETABS analysis package or RAM Structural System. It is an advantage to be familiar with SAP 2000, RAM Concept and Advance, or S-Frame. The candidate is expected to be fully conversant with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of AutoCad is beneficial.
