Job Title: Fitness Consultant Reporting to: Fitness ManagerLocation:Portobello Green Fitness ClubSalary: £7,895Hours: 20 per weekFot more information or to apply for this job please visit: http://www.westway.org/about_us/jobsPurpose of JobAs Fitness Consultant, you will be responsible for providing an enjoyable, high quality and relevant health and fitness experience to all members and guests, assisting with the implementation of the community fitness programme and ensuring the smooth running of the fitness areas when on duty.Main Areas of Accountability:1Welcome and assist all customers using the fitness room, ensuring a high level of customer service2Screen all new members, including community members, to ascertain their fitness objectives, provide professional induction training and ensure correct and safe use of equipment at all times3Develop and regularly review and update appropriate exercise programmes for members and monitor their progress providing motivational support as required 4Ensure all members are processed through the Club retention programme 5Promote ongoing motivational activities, competitions, health & fitness courses and classes where appropriate6Assist the Fitness Manager with the community health and fitness initiatives at PGFC and undertake specific community fitness projects as required7Ensure all gym equipment is kept clean, in working order and maintained to a high standard; ensure maintenance records are kept up to date8Teach fitness classes as required, and provide professional exercise instruction to a range of individuals and groups from the community as appropriate9Work positively in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy10Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably requiredProviding Personal Training is an optional extra outside of Fitness Consultant hours, subject to performance and qualifications.Essential qualifications, skills and abilities:1.A recognised fitness instruction qualification i.e. YMCA, ACSM, FIA or Sports Science qualification i.e. BTEC, HND, BSc2.A minimum of one years’ experience working in a gym3.Good working knowledge of customer care requirements4.Working knowledge of Health & Fitness, including Health & Safety, screening, design of appropriate programmes to meet individual customer needs5.Ability to prescribe exercise for special populations i.e. IFI, GP Referrals6.Ability to run fitness sessions for a range of groups and populations7.Ability to work as part of a team8.Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to be sensitive to the needs of the community users9.Willingness to work on and take ownership of projects10.Able to work shifts including early morning, evening and weekend hours11.A commitment to work within the Trust’s Equal Opportunities PolicyDesirable qualifications, skills and abilities:1.Computer literacy2.Able to teach studio classes i.e. Step, Aerobics, 50+, circuits3.
