A large mixed Catholic 11-18 comprehensive school with 1688 pupils on roll are looking for a committed, flexible teacher to join their successful English Department to cover a maternity absence.
English is taught by a team of twelve teachers almost all of whom teach across the whole age range, up to and including A-level. There are strong links with Drama, Media, ICT, Special Needs and the Library and several members of the English Department contribute directly to work in these areas.
The English Department has a commitment to mixed-ability teaching and English is taught in mixed ability groups through years 7 to 11. At Key Stage 3, the English Department seeks to develop each student's skills and competence in the major domains of the English curriculum: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The department strive to promote the lifelong enjoyment of language and literature through stimulating work and engagement with progressively challenging materials and activities. Students are encouraged to develop as informed and critical thinkers and are supported to become increasingly confident and independent learners
There are 832 boys and 856 girls. The sixth form is very large, with 506 students. The school successfully passed its ofsted inspection in March 2006 with an outstanding rating and Beacon Status which was originally awarded back in 1999.
